New Work
I'm continuing the portrait series in larger format. One group, recently finished, was large format mixed media paintings on paper, of North Beach artists, exhibited at Canessa Gallery in San Francisco in October 09.
Another group is large format oil paintings on wood panel. In this one, I'm focusing on more intimate portraits, using family members as my subject.
Both bodies of work have their joys and challenges. It was fun having so many local artists indulge me and become muses for the North Beach series. I was awed couple of times, few times stumbled until I found the right look and feel, but always inspired and grateful for the opportunity.
My "family portrait" series is still in its inception and hard to tell what the end result will look like. I see it as coming full circle with my older work as I picture the pieces together, intercepted by plain blue wooden panels symbolizing my emotional roots...and, me in a way.
